Is it free to join?
There are no subscription fees, no setup fees, and no lock-in. Task Helper takes a commission from each completed job, and you will see the full details in your Helper Agreement before you start accepting work. The one cost to be aware of: your required Ministry of Justice criminal record check and identity verification are both managed through the app, and the cost is a one-time deduction from your first commission payment. There is nothing to pay before you start.
How does the vetting work?
Once you have created your profile, you will be guided through an NZ Ministry of Justice criminal record check and an identity verification, both managed entirely through the app. They are standard, one-time requirements. Processing usually takes about a week. Once you are approved, you will not need to repeat it. The cost of both checks is deducted from your first commission payment: nothing is payable before you start. The vetting is what gives customers confidence in every booking.
Do I need to bring my own equipment and supplies?
Yes. Customers book you to bring the skills and the gear. Cleaning helpers bring their own supplies and equipment. Gardening helpers bring their own tools and mower. Assembly helpers bring their own tools. Moving helpers bring trolleys and furniture blankets. Equipment requirements per service category are confirmed in your Helper Agreement.
How much can I earn?
Earnings depend on the service type on the platform. The price for each job is fixed and shown before you accept, so there are no surprises. The more jobs you complete and the higher your rating, the more work comes your way. Payment lands in your Task Helper wallet within 24 hours of every completed job.
Can I choose which jobs I take?
Yes. You will receive notifications for jobs that match your services, availability, and area. You decide which ones to accept. There is no penalty for declining a job. That said, consistent reliability is what builds your rating and keeps work coming your way, so we encourage accepting only jobs you can commit to.
What if a customer disputes the job?
Task Helper holds payment in escrow until the job is confirmed complete. If a customer raises a dispute within 24 hours, our team reviews the job details, photo confirmation, and any relevant communications, and makes a fair call. Legitimate completed work is always paid. Your photo confirmation at the end of every job is your best protection.
Can I work across multiple areas or cities?
Yes. Set multiple service areas in your profile: Christchurch and Rolleston, or across different cities as Task Helper expands. You will receive job notifications for all areas you have listed, within your availability window.
