LIFTING, SHIFTING AND CARRYING
Some things around the house are not hard. They just cannot be done alone. Your helper arrives, does the lifting, and you get your afternoon back. Everything happens at your address, so there is no waiting on a van and no coordinating two places at once.
BEING STRAIGHT WITH YOU
What is included
What is not included
Anything electrical, plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying is licensed work in New Zealand and there is no exception for a helper. If that is what your job needs, you need a licensed tradesperson.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
How heavy is too heavy?
One person can safely carry a fair bit, but not everything. Here is the honest version.
Up to 30 kg your helper can lift and carry on their own, including up and down stairs.
Up to 60 kg can be slid, walked or trolleyed along a level floor with a clear path. A standard couch sits in this range.
Anything heavier is not something we will book, because it is not something one person should be doing.
When you book, we ask whether someone at your place will be helping with the lifting. If you are lending a hand, heavier items become possible. If not, that is completely fine, and we will only book what your helper can safely do alone.

QUESTIONS
Straight answers.
What is an extra pair of hands?
It is a booking for a vetted local helper to do physical work at your home for a set block of time. Lifting, shifting furniture, carrying things in from the car, loading a trailer, clearing out the garage. It is not a trade and it is not a removal service. Your helper works at your address only.
How much does it cost to get help moving furniture in Christchurch?
Most operators in this space charge by the hour and set a two-hour minimum, so a small job often costs more than it should. Task Helper works differently. You describe the job, we work out how long it takes, and you see one fixed price before you confirm. The smallest booking is a single hour.
What does an hour actually get me?
More than you would think. Three pieces of furniture shifted to another room, or twenty bags of soil carried through to the back garden, both fit comfortably inside an hour.
What if the job takes longer than I booked?
Your helper will let you know before the time is up. You can book another block if you want the job finished, or leave it there. You are never charged more than the price you agreed.
Can my helper take the old couch away?
No. Everything stays on your property. Your helper can move it out to the kerb for a council collection or into a skip you have booked, but they cannot take it off site.
Can they move things to my new house?
No. Extra pair of hands is help at one address. If you need something taken somewhere else, you will want a specialist.
How heavy an item can one helper move?
Up to 30 kg your helper can lift and carry on their own, including stairs. Up to 60 kg can be slid or trolleyed along a level floor, which covers a standard couch. Anything heavier is not bookable.
Do I need to help with the lifting?
Not at all, and we never assume it. We ask when you book so we know what your helper is working with. If you are happy to take one end of something, heavier items become possible.
What if I am not happy with the result?
Task Helper holds your payment in escrow until you confirm the job is complete. Raise it in the app within 24 hours if you are not satisfied. Do not confirm completion if you are not happy with the work.
